Why OutGeek exists
Our founder got tired of waiting for tech hiring to change, so she started running the events she wanted to attend. The format has stayed simple: hiring teams pitch, attendees choose who to talk to, and everyone leaves with real conversations. We're women-founded and led, started in San Francisco, and now run events across North America, Europe and Mexico, alongside non-profits working for women in tech.
Is it harder to run women in tech events right now?
Yes. Sponsors are more cautious and some events are harder to fund. We're carrying on, and everyone who wants a fairer tech industry is welcome. If we can't stand for equity when it gets tough, we don't deserve to celebrate it when it's easy.
What happens at an event?
Doors open with food, drinks and time to settle in. Then each hiring team gives a 5-minute pitch: what they build and who they're hiring. After that it's speed interviews or open networking, depending on the city, number of teams and venue layout. Most evenings run about two and a half hours.
Will my employer find out?
No. We send the list of attending companies before each event and check every guest list for conflicts of interest. Your employer is never notified. One tip: register with a personal email, not your work one.
Do I need to be job hunting?
You don't need to be actively job hunting, but please keep in mind that our event centers around professional growth, career advancement and recruitment. It provides a chance for both passive and active job seekers to explore the job market.
Can anyone attend?
Yes. Our events centre on women in tech, and anyone working in tech is welcome. That includes the bearded guy who emailed to ask.
